After a decade of friends having Minis and promising to buy one I finally did. I just wanted to go on the record as actually voting with my dollars when I saw the new generation unveiled. I didn't need another car the last few years, and kept saying "next year..." Well...the time came.
After years of having access to a JCW and a stripper Cooper, I am actually surprised how much fucking fun these little monsters are...

In a few years I would want to own one of these. What do you think of them so far?

It's a 2013, but used, 9K on the clock. Actually a BMW HQ car.
Black everything. Loaded up with everything cool for driving and comfort without being too techno silly. No infotainment/nav/pixel system, basically.
I can confirm that it is super competent on the PA B-roads. As well as super comfy and fuel sipping on the ride home to Vermont with speeds approaching ludicrous on the beautifully maintained roads in the NYC/NJ/CT shithole metroplex.
It's great, I've been kicking myself for not doing it for a couple years. I have a few cars and didn't need another. But as the queen says...fuck it.

I hope the plaid didn't prove too distracting on your drive home!

I think they are great.
Driving feel is great. Mileage is great. Lots of awesome feel inside. If you like driving, you cannot not love these cars. Good looks, you can customize from the factory in a way that is only available in Porsches.
I had two people approach me on my only stop coming home. One was a car guy, the other was a super nice lady who was just giggling at how cute and awesome the car was. If you add in tasteful gay men, you may have the three demographics that love these cars. I mention that because that is the only possible drawback...everyone besides lame bro-truck dudes want to chat with you.

I'm lost.
What's tartan got to do with it?

Congrats! Looks like a lot of fun. And looks sharp in that color.
And thank you for buying the real Mini. I don't get why people buy the super sized ones. Isn't the point of the Mini to have fun on twisty roads? I took this picture today when getting lunch because it made me lol. Look how massive the "Mini" that parked next to me was:
If I was getting a Mini it would definitely be one like yours. I know having extra doors makes the car more practical. But it ruins the car to me. The two door + hatch is the way to go!
Is your car a manual?

Yes, totally.
While I appreciate the Cayenne sales as a means to Caymans...there is a certain silliness to folks wanting a MINI and then picking up a vehicle the size of a RAV4 or what-the-fuck-ever....
I was actually biding my time for a Cayman when the 2014 MINI came out and I couldn't wait...
Yes, it is a 6spd. I have stumbled into a few vehicles with 2 pedals...but the vehicles I have paid for over the last 20 years have had the correct pedal count, with the exception of a Outback that was unavailable with both a turbo and a correct transmission.

It's funny how so many people love cars with higher seating positions! Is it really THAT hard to get in and out of a low car?
